Top 10 Books Based On Indian Mythology | Book Recommendation

 Today, I decided to write blog about book recommendations. If you are interested in reading about mythology, then I have perfect list of books which may satisfied your hunger for myths and mysteries. I have listed top 10 book by Indian authors on Indian Mythologies.

1. The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni


It is reimagining of world famous Indian epic Mahabharata- told from the view point of strong and amazing woman Draupadi who was wife of legendary brothers Pandavas. It is a magically woven story of half myth and half history. It is a story of brave Draupadi who has five husbands; from her enchanted birth to the epic battle of Mahabharata. If you like strong female leads then this book will become your favorite in no time.

2. The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi

This book is set on fantasy world called 'Land of Meluha' which is based on ancient Indu Valley Civilization. The Suryavanshi empire of this land is facing many problems from extiction of their rivers to attack of terrorist called Nagas who are deformed super humans. Their only hope to survive from this unavoidable crisis is legend named Shiva who can save this empire from brutal end. This series consist of three books which follows this legend Shiva and his quest. The author Amish has fictionalized and simplified the mythology of Lord Shiva that can be easily followed.

3. The Pregnant King by Devdutt Pattnaik

It is based on some less known stories from epic Mahabharata. This story is about king who accidentally drink a potion that was made for his wives and instead of them he became pregnant. Author has created a good tale of power, love and self-identity through the story of mythology. It also shade light on some interesting stories from Mahabharata. 

4. Ram Chandra Trilogy by Amish Tripathi

Ram Chandra trilogy by Amish is based on famous Indian Sanskrit literature epic Ramayana. This book series is written in three parts. The amazing thing about this trilogy is each book described by three most important pillars of this epic tale that is Lord Ram, his wife Sita and Ravan. If you want to read Ramayana with different aspects then this series is for you.

5. The Krishna Key by Ashwin Sanghi

This book is total different from others in this list. Because it is pure crime-thriller mystery book but based on the tales of Lord Krishna. The story follows a archeologist who studied the legacy of eighth avatar of Krishna. 6. Mrityunjaya by Shivaji Sawant

This is one of the first Indian mythology inspired book published in 1976. This is a story of  Karna, the great warrior of Mahabharata. It is an outstanding literature masterpiece which explore the journey of Karna and his quest to find the true nature of himself. It is indeed the autobiography of Karna. Originally published in Marathi, this book is translated in many languages.

7. Keeper's of the Kalchakra by Ashwin Sanghi

This book is based on various Indian mythologies and Buddhism with hint of quantum physics. It is perfect mixture of mythology and science fiction. It engage reader with its mind-blowing conspiracy theories.

8. The Mahabharata Secret by Christopher C. Doyle

When king Ashoka has discovered deep buried secret from the ancient text of Mahabharata which can destroy the world, he created the club of nine men who will protect this secret from being misused. We all know about the epic Mahabharata and the great Pandavas. How they had endured the humility, betrayal and wealth from the hands of their family and the journey of their revenge. But what about the other side of story? This book is written in the view point of Duryodhan, the villain of the epic battle. It is quiet interesting to read about the loosing side the story.

10. Karna's Wife: The Outcast's Queen by Kavita Kane
