The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes | Book Review

I have seen this book on so many book recommendation lists, but somehow I always ignore it.  And when I finally pick this book, my mind goes like- Ooof! This book is pure gem and very underrated one.

Title: The Inheritance Game
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Genre: Fiction, Mystery
Series: The Inheritance Game #1
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My Thoughts:

As awful as it sounds, money is power, and power is magnetic.
This is story of Avery Grambs. She is poor orphan who live with her half sister and her douche boyfriend. She work hard and do part time jobs to save money for her future. She is loner in high-school with love of math. She has only one friend named Max who lives in different city.

But overnight she turned into billionaire when America’s 9th richest person Tobias Hawthorne died and made Avery his sole heir. But the thing is, she do not know who Mr. Hawthorne is or why he write off his all money to Avery.

But there is a condition- to receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where each room bears the old man’s touch-and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.

Unfortunately, house is also occupied with Mr. Hawthorne’s family that Tobias Hawthorne just disowned. This includes the four handsome and dangerous Hawthorne grandsons who grew up thinking they would inherit billions of money.  Now, brought in the world of wealth and privilege without her will, she had to make her way around the danger and survive the game of twist and turn for a year.

He left you the fortune, Avery, and all he left us is you.

This book has taken my sleep away, until I reach the final page. It has mesmerized me from the very start. Every chapter is filled with different riddles and puzzles that engage you throughout the book. This book is real page turner. Once you thought, it might get stable then again it reveals more secrets. There is no single chapter which will bore you.

Now, talk about the characters, I really do like Avery. She is not typical weak girl. She is smart, strong and brave who is not intimated by anyone. The character of four Hawthorne grandsons was really interesting. Nash, Grayson, Jameson, and Alexander have different personality. My favourite one was Jameson. He is unpredictable and total storm. I loved how story was fast paced with wholesome entertainment. The good thing is, the story of Hawthorne doesn’t end here. As book ends with unexpected cliff-hanger, its sequel is coming out in September 2021.

Overall, this book has reached my top 10 books of the year! I really loved this book. I will recommend this book to all the mystery lovers with hint of romance and lots of puzzles.

Let me know, what are your thoughts about this review!!
