Review:

This is my first read from author Natasha Preston. She has written 30 books many of them were mystery-thriller. Honestly, I was drawn to this book by its beautiful cover.

This story is set in small town of Aurora where teens are getting missing over a year. But most of these teens are considered runaways so authorities are not taking action about it. But when Piper and Hazel’s classmate went missing, this duo starts to question about these missing incidents. They decide to investigate about this case by themselves.

During this investigation, they mate two handsome boys who offer them lift in the middle of forest (okay, I know who go with strangers when teens are getting missing around). So these two girls who were trying to solve case got kidnapped instead.

All those teens, who are gone missing are not runaways. But they are kept captives by these two lunatics. These two guys are children of very rich people who fund the town. They have build maze like place where they held this teens. But wait, it’s not all. This place is specially design to torture. Each room is dedicated to specific torture method which I find really interesting.

To survive this you have either to kill someone or you may get killed by your friend!!! But there is no escape.

I really do like the concept of this book. It remind of those horror movies which centered on teenagers where no one get to survive. I love how author has built the torture room that was unique. I enjoyed reading the part where our main lead has to face this torture room. The bonus part about these rooms is there are five rooms of each kind!

Let’s talk about Piper, our protagonist. She may appear as nerdy who love to watch crime documentaries but inside she is fierce. She has such strong mind that even in this kind of situation she acts brave to annoy her captors. Throughout book we get to see more of Piper’s brave nature and her numerous attempt to get free from this hell hole.

Overall, this book was good read. All this psychological cat-mouse game was brilliant. I completed the half book in a day, but after that problem with this book began to show. There were lots of plot holes. There was no background information on story villain, I mean no one born bad guy right?

Biggest thing that disappoint me was the ending. I did not expect that kind of ending. It feels so out of place with Piper’s character. Some people may like this cliffhanger, but it did not work for me.

But if you love psychological thriller especially with twist of mind games, then this book is for you.
